Start with the exact CPU, GPU, case and planned additions. Read their documentation alongside the PSU’s. This is a purchase check: do not open a PSU or attempt electrical load experiments yourself.
Your purchase checklist
- Confirm full PSU code, generation and regional AC cord.
- Match required GPU/motherboard plugs to included cables.
- Establish modular-cable compatibility explicitly.
- Measure the PSU, cable bends and drive cage together.
- Find noise evidence at relevant load; keep unknowns unknown.
Generation is part of the name
RMx, RMx SHIFT and later RMx generations are different products. Linked examples are 2021 editions with North American cable codes. A local seller may supply another bundle; check actual code and AC cord. Do not infer a newer ATX label or supplied modern GPU connector from brand and wattage alone.
Make a connector list first
Record motherboard and GPU requirements from their exact manuals, then compare supplied PSU cables. CPU EPS and GPU PCIe 8-pin connectors have different functions; never force a plug. Check routing and conditions for any separately purchased cable accessory.
Modular does not mean universally interchangeable
Keep cables with their own PSU. Corsair’s reviewed manual warns against unsuitable DC-cable reuse and requires checking cable type. A matching PSU-side plug does not prove pin wiring. Use the correct included set or obtain manufacturer confirmation for the exact combination. This guide provides no DIY rewiring advice.
Measure more than the metal housing
Allow for the drive cage, connector length and relaxed cable bends. Check the actually supplied edition; a family manual or another-generation review can state a different length. Follow case/PSU ventilation instructions. A case’s maximum dimension does not guarantee comfortable fit with every drive and cable installed.
Read efficiency and noise with the load
An efficiency badge does not establish desk noise. A fan may stop at light load and run at higher demand. Seek independent measurements across loads for the exact generation and wattage. Current reading of the two RMx examples does not include every detailed measurement page, so this guide gives no fixed dB promise.
Compare the complete purchase
Include confirmed PSU, required compatible cables, delivery and assistance. Higher wattage does not automatically save energy or solve a missing connector. Resolve unknown load, connections or cable origin first. Sources checked 29 October 2026; follow current manufacturer documentation before assembly.
