Choosing a robot vacuum for your home: floors, dock and upkeep

Map difficult areas first and decide which work you will still do yourself.

Illustration: Specufo · AI-generated, not a product photograph.

Compare a robot vacuum against the rooms it must actually clean. A suction figure or large dock photograph does not establish how it handles thin cables, rugs or furniture. This guide combines an original home checklist with a specific manual example; it is not a Specufo cleaning test.

Your purchase checklist

  • Put floor types, rugs, loose cables and narrow areas on one plan.
  • Check navigation separately from recognition of small obstacles.
  • Read mopping conditions and exclusion zones for the exact edition.
  • Record the dock model, required space and bundle-specific functions.
  • Make a one-year maintenance and cost list with unknown items visible.

Define three real routes

Draw an everyday route, a difficult area under furniture and a route past rugs or thresholds. Measure available space and record obstacles that remain on the floor. Ask for a relevant demonstration or matching independent test. Mapping a room is a different task from detecting a sock or cable; a navigation name does not prove both capabilities.

Treat mopping as a separate decision

Check what must be removed, configured or excluded for the exact robot and floor. The Q5 Pro manual read for this guide describes a removable mop module and avoiding carpet while mopping. This model example does not establish automatic mop lifting or carpet detection on other robots. Recheck the local manual and your floor’s conditions before using water.

Look beyond the dock photograph

Record the dock part number and what it actually does: charge, empty, wash mops or a combination. Do not inherit functions from a similar bundle. Check power, required space, the return path and maintenance access. The supplied Q5 Pro and Q5 Pro+ bundles need separate verification. A larger dock does not automatically fit the same place.

Decide which upkeep you accept

List brushes, tangled hair, bin, filter, cloth and sensors before purchasing. The Q5 Pro manual gives different maintenance routines for these: an emptying function does not eliminate the other tasks. Follow your exact model’s instructions rather than a universal cleaning procedure. Dry washable parts fully as directed and use only permitted cleaning materials.

Compare costs without erasing unknowns

Write the purchase price alongside bags, filters, brushes and other required items. Calculate an annual amount only when both prices and consumption have adequate support; otherwise keep it unknown. Also compare the time you are willing to spend. A low-priced robot that does not fit your upkeep routine can be the wrong choice without inventing a monetary saving.

Record the boundary of your choice

Write down which difficult area was tested and what remains unknown. Keep an alternative for rooms or tasks outside that boundary. Self-selected owner reports can identify questions, but do not establish a failure percentage or equivalent cleaning in every home. Choose after checking the daily route, maintenance and exact bundle together.
