Does your upgrade need PCIe 5.0?

Editorial specification comparison · checked 23 October 2026

The 9100 PRO uses PCIe 5.0 ×4; the 990 PRO uses PCIe 4.0 ×4. Interface bandwidth helps only within the host and workload limits. Check the exact M.2 slot manual.

Samsung specifies 1,200 TBW for both 2 TB variants. Higher sequential maxima do not automatically double boot, gaming or copy speeds. The other drive may also limit a transfer.

Compare confirmed delivered totals and nominal price per TB. Unknown delivery costs cannot count as zero. Neither linked BW variant includes a factory heatsink; check cooling and height clearance.

Compare capacity and cache, not just peak speed

Manufacturer speeds are maxima under stated test conditions. They do not show sustained writing after the cache fills. TBW is a write-endurance warranty limit, not a predicted failure date; time limits also apply. Check M.2 length, interface and heatsink clearance in the host manual. Price per TB uses nominal decimal capacity and a confirmed delivered total.
